Tatonka Norix: Hiking backpacks for demanding mountain tours

By the editorial team·3 min read

Now the Bavarians have introduced the Norix series: backpacks for sporty day hikes, via ferrata tours or multi-day hut-to-hut hikes. With four different sizes, customers can find the right hiking backpack for different outings. The women's models are available with 24 and 31 litres of volume, the unisex/men's models with 27 and 34 litres.

The Norix 24 Women and the Norix 27 are particularly suited to day hikes. Anyone who wants to pack more gear and a change of clothes for a hut-to-hut hike will reach for the Norix 31 Women or the Norix 34. On both women's models, the shoulder straps are specially shaped to fit the female anatomy.

Secure fit even in challenging terrain

All models share the Vent Comfort carrying system. The backpack sits close to the back and gives very good load control – an advantage above all in steep terrain and on via ferratas. The back padding with a ventilation channel and the breathable AirMesh cover ensure pleasant air circulation.

Besides the main compartment, elastic pockets on the front and sides and a lid pocket provide extra storage space. Gear loops on the front and an elastic bungee cord on the lid also let you attach more equipment to the outside of the backpack.

Practical access via the back

A special feature of the Norix is the large wraparound zip on the back. It opens the main compartment wide, so the gear is easy to see and reach – including items packed further down. At the same time, the side with the carrying system stays facing up when the pack is open, so it doesn't have to be laid on dirty or wet ground or in the snow.

Thoughtful features for via ferratas

The Norix also comes with practical details for via ferrata tours. Large gear loops on the shoulder straps and hip belt provide space to clip the carabiners of the via ferrata set temporarily on unprotected sections. If you wear a climbing harness, the backpack's hip belt can be removed, so harness and hip belt don't get in each other's way.

With four sizes, a close-fitting carrying system and mountain-ready details, the Norix series covers a wide range – from a sporty day hike to a multi-day tour with overnight stays in mountain huts.
